One of Milan's most long-standing pastry shops, Marchesi 1824 has been a city classic for more than two centuries. The seating area is a real pleasure, but I like to do as the Italians do and take a quick espresso at the bar in the morning. Alongside my coffee I add a different pastry each time. My favourites are the Panettone and the Treccia Con Frutta (a plaited bun with fruit). The vanilla cream inside the Treccia Con Frutta, which is made with strawberries and seasonal fruit, accompanies the fruit beautifully.
