La Merenda is one of the most original restaurants in Nice, run today by Dominique Le Stanc, formerly a two Michelin star chef. It can seat only 24 guests at a time. There is a single menu, and you make your choices in the order in which you arrive. Bringing together the hidden but striking flavours of French cooking, La Merenda is as strong on its vegetable plates as on its meat. The pasta with pesto, the onion pie, the stuffed sardines and the vegetable soup in particular are among the things you really must try. The wines of the region make a wonderful companion to these plates. Reservations open around two weeks ahead, so I would suggest giving this place priority when you plan your trip to Nice.
