Caffe Gilli, on Piazza della Republica, is somewhere you can visit at any hour of the day. Its pastries appeal to the eye, but in terms of flavour they did not really satisfy me. To my mind the place stands out for its ice cream and its coffee, or for the affogato that brings the two together. If you visit in the evening you can also listen to the street performers in the square.
