Diners are restaurants that stand for American culture: no reservation needed, a scruffy atmosphere and enormous portions. Brooklyn Diner is one of the places keeping that culture alive, and I have been visiting it happily for years. The star of the menu is the "Chicken Pot Pie". Although the name says pie, it is made with crisp, well-risen puff pastry. Inside, the filling is chicken, cream and vegetables. Only a limited number are made each day, so I would suggest ringing ahead before you go.
